Eating ”humanely raised meat” will make you live longer?? Dont think so…I thought the whole thing was about raw food..why is he promoting the use of animals to increase our health?

If you are familiar with Dr. Mercola, you would know he is not a raw foodist, he advocates getting most of your foods completely raw, but most doctors don’t recommend going 100% raw anyway, and the Longevity conference includes health experts that aren’t just supporting a 100% raw food diet.

I personally am 100% raw at the moment, but I do not believe meat is terrible for us, I have not seen the evidence. In fact all I see is that meat contains amazing fatty acids that support our health, definitely aids weight loss, boosts testosterone, and along with a diet including many raw foods, is wonderful. Also it probably digests well in small quantities since it is acidic.

Goodness did you actually listen to the video? He doesn’t say that at all!!! He says that depending on who you are that you can actually be very healthy either being a vegan or eating a humanely raised meat but yes he advocates eating mainly raw and some meat is ok, I completely agree with him and so many other really good health advocates do also. Now you may want to listen to the video again and take notes.

Read Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon or Nutritional Degeneration by Weston A Price DDS.
He went all over the world to find people that had low incidence of cavities in the 1930′s. He wanted to find a vegetarian people that fit the bill- he couldn’t!!! The eskimos, with the most fat and raw meat had the least (.OO9%). The more a people depended on plant sources of food, the less vibrant their health and the higher the incidence of cavities. Each people he found with vibrant health and extemely low incidence of cavities had a food that was almost sacred. It was different for each people but all had one thing in common: it was an animal food that was high in fat solulable vitamins A and D.

Really?? Cavities (and only cavities) are the sole factor we should determine health by? I don’t think so. The eskimos may have less cavities, on the other hand they don’t live that long (this conference was on longevity, right?) and they have terrible osteoporosis statistics. Not to mention the ‘quality of life’ factor…

        >The more a people depended on plant sources of food, >the less vibrant their health was…
I’m sorry, but really, really NOT TRUE. I suggest anyone who thinks so, read The China study. And compare tha Massais with some almost complete vegeterian African tribes and see their health statistics.
Not to mention that we in Western civ. really hardly eat any fruits and veggies RAW – we almost totally depend on animal products, whatever small amounts of plants we do eat, we steam, boil, cook, bake, grill, soak them in either sugar or salt – and look, how nicely we do! We hardly have any cavities, osteoporosis, blood and heart diseas, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, cancer! Right?

Move to a better place or visit parks/nature a little more to breath better air…..and much more can help you be healthy and live longer…Doubts and negativity will take you to the grave soon!

THANK YOU! Dr. Mercola and David Wolfe for this very important and informative video.

RE: B-12…. One should not need to take VIT B-12 every day. The Liver (and Intestines?) can store B-12
(up to ~ 7 years). Some Cultures that are basically vegan OCCASSIONALLY eat fermented and/or raw animal products (mostly dairy) such as yogurt, kefir, and fermented tempeh, saurkraut etc.. to get their stash of B-12, and the probiotics to replenish B-12 and replenish the good bacteria that maintains it. Shouldn’t one NOT have to eat animal products EVERY day for B-12, but only eat them occassionally ?

RE: IRON…. Many people eat animal flesh/meat for IRON for hemoglobin. However, Dr. Mercola states that we can have too much IRON (especially men and post-menopausal women). How does one balance enough and too much Iron if one eats meat/flesh ?

    RE: VITAMIN B-12 …
Can one obtain enough B-12 from just consuming Dairy (milk, cheese) ? And do animal Dairy products contain less IRON than animal meat/flesh ?

QUESTION RE: SUNLIGHT… Is there a good way to Block the detrimental UV-A, but still allow the beneficial UV-B rays of the Sunlight spectrum ?

Any informed Answers to my Questions are most wecome.

    THANK YOU!,

I’m sorry, but I’m going to be a voice of dissent here. First of all, anyone who uses the term “humane” in the same sentence as raising and killing animals for food is full of crap; and then have the gall to make a statement about circus animals? I can’t believe David Wolfe is promoting this guy. Also contrary to what Mercola says, the body will only stop producing B12 IF people buy into the idea and allow themselves to stop producing it. There is NO limit to what the mind and body can do together if properly activated.

      You comments are extremely valid.
While Dr. Mercola has some very useful information to share, his choice to continue to eat animal products does detract from his validity.
I strongly recommend reading Dr. T Colin Campbell’s book ‘The China Study’,if you want to see some very good scientific reasons why the consumption of animal protein is detrimental to both our personal health and that of the entire planet.

        hello

i read the book ” the china study ” its a great read… but as dr mercola says ( there are many variables ) grass fed vs grain fed , roaming vs caged , organic vs chemicals and hormones, i would suppose studies would need to be done on both types .
as both produce different methane levels and levels of omega 3 fats etc etc.
i used to be a raw vegan for awhile until i was in alaska i saw wild bears gorging on wild salmon and i thought to myself , our ancestors would have joined in on that feast.

When I wonder about eating meat or not. I just look (as someone else mentioned) what our ancestors did.
There are many cultures that needed and today need meat to survive. Eskimos have a total fat diet from seals etc. They need it to subsist. American Indians needed meat to get them through winters!

The question for me isn’t meat vs no meat, it is what mega farms have done to the meat they raise !
Nature, God, or whomever (whatever fits your spiritual beliefs) put these creatures on the planet there is a reason. In America we do eat too much meat, for our way of life. We don’t work it off, we don’t burn it off. AND, the animals are full of antibiotics. Chemicals, herbicides and GMO’s from food they are fed, they are fed things never intended for them… Man makes meat “BAD”, not what nature put here.

ALSO; I don’t think Dr. Mercola choosing to eat meat reflects on his validity. If he chooses that and it works for him, doesn’t make the information he shares less valid. No more than a vegan choice invalidates information.

There are countries in Europe who eat high fat diet, that doctors here “go postal” over, don’t eat fat you’ll die!!
Well what is it in France that keeps them from dying from eating fat….? It’s all relative. Most Doctors in this country for the most part know nothing about food and health realationship.

Hi, I agree with your comment that animals must have been put on earth for some reason….and the reason is this…. herding animals are vegetarian and they ‘prune’ the earth to maintain it’s fertility. That is why herding animals live together in such huge numbers and travel from place to place in keeping with ‘their’ seasons. Meat eating animals are usually in pairs….lions etc.. and they cull the herding animals to keep the numbers balanced and healthy.Neither were ever meant for us to eat. We have our job to do here on earth. As caretakers we are to optimize the best and minimize the worst to maintain balance. We are here to help the others not to eat them.
Humans fit into the ‘herding’ animals category.
We broke the rule that divides the herders from the cullers and to make ourselves fit we invented a new word called Omnivore that allows us to be both. Now we actually believe that today’s world and natural food changes through meddling with our food growth requires us to eat meat in order to be healthy when actually all we have to do is return to natures way. Organic means that the earth’s food is grown in soil that provides the nutrients and vitamins we need, which are then transferred into the vegetables. Food travelling by refridgerated trucks depletes the nutrients which is why it’s best to buy food locally, grown in composted soils and only import that which you cannot grow in your environment.ie: fruit or find other sources of Vit.C + antioxidants etc..Some food release their goodness through heat and some are best raw. Do your research. And eat wild or organic meats/fish only if there is no other way to get what your body requires.

If we are only going to listen and debate issues with people that we agree with, we will be the poorer for it. I leave you with a quotation.

Most diseases are caused by the food, drinks and environmental pollutants that stayed in our colon for more than 24 hours. This is due to indigestion caused by the large amount, the time we eat and the wrong mixture of food and drinks. Undigested food (healthy and unhealthy) ferment, putrefy, turn rancid and become toxic, acidic, and create a condusive environment for parasites to breed. The toxins, acidity and the parasites leak into the blood and deposit them to various parts of our body. The deosited toxins damage the cells and organs and caused diseases.
Regular colon, parasites, liver and gallbladder cleanse can prevent and even cure diseases.

yep, as a therapist i very often come across pain that is soley emotional, coming out s physical pain, one guy even had his spine colapse because of a vacuum in his emotional centre, believe it or not !. but my main point is about the killng of animals. you can`t tell me that even humainly killed animals don`t spend their last few moments in fear ! and that leads to a cocktail of emotional chemicals, which you then digest, where`s the goodness in that ?

I too am a raw food lover & Vegan though not 100%. Also a fan of David & Dr Mercola for many years.
Initially for personal health reasons and now as a HEALTH COACH, my 12+ years of research have identified that dis-ease comes primarily from 4 sources.
    1) Toxins – We are exposed to over 300+ chemicals every day
    2) Nutritional deficiencies (or excesses) – ie too much processed and energetically dead foods
    3) EMF – we are bombarded now 100% of the time by EMF
    4) Stress & what we are thinking – I have found this last point the most important one from my experience.
“thoughts are things..Choose good ones” I say.
And these 4 root causes of dis-ease all lead to over-acidification of the body which is the most holistic health solution I have come across.
Cleansing the body temple 1-3 times a year and then maintaining a mainly alkaline and 50%+ raw food diet & lifestyle I have found to set things right again.
I am also a major advocate of the health benefits of growing your own organic green leafy veggies & herbs

Roger, I agree that Dr M speaks very quickly, however, he really is doing wonderful work which benefits us all. Another way to see it – he’s obviously very bright and very enthusiastic about his work and helping humanity – maybe that’s part of the reason why he speaks like this. One can always suggest that he speak a little more slowly. The Dalai Lama teaches choosing compassion, even in situations where it may not come easily because we feel frustration, hurt or anger. Choosing love and compassion opens our heart and soul in a beautiful way that the deepest kind healing can happen for us all. Peace and Love.

I totally agree with Kevin Carle’s May 12th comment above. Since every body is different you have to find out what works for you – fine tune your eating, listen to your body’s response and make adjustments until you find what makes hour body work optimally. My favourite people are those that say “I tried quitting coffee or eating more greens for a while but nothing got better”…”I still have painful joints or asthma, etc..” …… seriously ….after years of toxifying the body and neglect we expect miracles overnight ?! – It takes time, positive attitude and daily maintenance – just like we maintain our households, cars, relationships, etc so must we maintain our healthy attitudes and be conscious of what we eat – one mouthful at a time! Keep up the great work Dr. Mercola – people are listening!!

Ummm… doctor or not, his statement about b12 deficiency being a vegan problem? Not true. I grew up eating meat and i have tested b12 deficient many times. I asked the doctor if something was specifically wrong with me and they replied, no, nearly all people i see are b12 deficient. Years later, i was watching people being tested for b12 and i asked doctors there, are all these deficiencies because they are vegetarian/vegan (as i had also heard this rumor then too), and they told me, no- over 85% of the population is b12 deficient. Aside from that, friends/coworkers and clients have mentioned to me throughout the years ‘oh i am going to get another b12 shot’ or ‘i have to get b12 shots each month’ and these people were ALL meat eaters…. something to think about.

Perhaps it’s the kind of red meat you are eating, production meat that has been irratiated might not have any vitimins left in it. also overcooking or microwaving will also kill off the vitamins. A natualpathic MD versed in the bloodtype sciences would be able to trace the cause.

Could it have something to do with the fact that our commercial beef is NOT EATING GRASS ? That they are fed grain (which turns to bacteria in the gut) and other dead cows (mad cow) I foegot what it is that is in grass that the cow eats it and his body converts it into useable food for us. And the in-humane way cows are treated at the slaughter house…DOES affect the meat. I’ve seen them feed dairy cows M&M into their feed !!

Great stuff, I have studied natural health for 10 years now. I know these things to be fact. Something that has not been mentioned: There is an easy way to tell what you as an individual should be eating and what your prone to. Blood/geno type science. Studied for over 100 years and culinated by Dr. Dadamo of right4yourtype.com. Each blood type has different needs and digestive traits proven through the human genenome project. Example, O’s need good clean red meat- no wheat, milk, soy, cornproducts and be careful with anything with too much acid-ie tomato sauce, orange juice, vinagar etc. A’s on the other hand should not eat with few exceptions red meat. They have the least acid content in their digestive tracts. Again- no wheat or dairy, BUT fermented soy and corn is good for them. Now it will all come together for you in a journey of self discovery. There is a bit of truth in everything you have heard or read. Now you will be able to tell fact from fiction. Hope this helps. I agree. I’ve been reading the Eat/Live/Cook for Your Type books and they make sense. My blood is Type A and I should be more of a vegetarian. (Factory farms should be outlawed.) My husband, on the other hand, is Type O and he loves his beef! My uncle raises grass fed so we’re good there. I haven’t been following all of the suggestions in the book yet but I’m looking forward to starting. My doc is the one who suggested the books.

The thing to remember with B-12 is that it is not MADE by animals. It’s made by bacteria in their gut (the bacteria comes from healthy soil) that they’ve eaten, and the B-12 is stored in their flesh.

B-12 is made by bacteria from the soil. Meat raised on feed that is non-organic, from dead soil, will have much less or none.

This also applies to the vegan question, why some traditional cultures can get by with so little “supplementation”. I theorize that they eat enough freshly harvested food with bacteria from the soil still present that they are supplementing this way.

I think our thoughs play a huge role in body health, the CURE medicine is looking for is RELIEF, and that is relief in the thoughts we are thinking. To find out more on this, and if your ready for a huge awakening, then visit Abraham-Hicks.com , truly inspiring…..And quickly on the topic of eating animals, I think we do need to change the way animals are farmed, it is barbaric, and not to far in the future we will hang our heads in shame. But I do eat meat & my partner is a on-site butcher,eg he kills and butchers their beef on their own farm. The animal has been in it,s own turf with out stress. The animal has not had to go through the stress of transport, then the terror of the slaughter yards. So city folk I have this to say to you “sometimes” you don’t have to travel that far out of the city to the country, to organize with a farmer who has clean paddocks {no chemicals} and ask to buy a side of beef. Im’ sure that there must be on site butchers out in your country side who can help you organize this. I am from the country, living 4 hrs away from the capitral of Perth, Western Australia, If I can be of assitance, then please don’t hesitate to ask. And by the way, the meat will be cheaper & healthier.

Great video – I am a great fan of vitamin D though I am wondering how this work sits alog side of the Marshall Protocol. Digestion is the source of health.

In all animals, nutrition requires an intake of food to be digested in the intestinal tract, followed by the elimination of the indigestible refuse as feces lest it becomes putrid.

Flesh is digested quickly. The intestinal tract of flesh eaters/carnivores are designed with a short intestinal tract. Flesh is digested quickly and becomes putrid quickly, but the short intestinal tract digests the flesh quickly and excretes the refuse as feces before it becomes putrid.

The human intestinal tract is longer and designed for a fruit diet, which takes a longer time to digest and excrete the refuse. Flesh food in humans is digested more quickly than fruit or vegetables but becomes putrid before its feces is able to pass through the longer intestine and be excreted.

When a human eats flesh, the intestine cannot move the flesh through its tract fast enough before it begins to become putrid and coats the cilia cells on the inside of the intestine surface. slowing or stopping the digested food, causing colon problems and disease.

Herbivore grass-eating animals have a longer tract, a necessary design to digest cellulose-based foods.

Every body of a human or animal pumps a flood of adrenalin throughout the tissues of its body when they are confronted by imminent death and have no escape. The butcher cannot drain the adrenalin from the dead carcass of a frightened animal. What does adrenalin do to the human who eats flesh? We may soon find the answer.

The Hebrews who followed Moses out of Egypt almost quit and turned back, because they longed for the stench of the burnt flesh that they had been accustomed to eat in Egypt.

The World Health Organisation has a lot to answer for, they are a huge world wide business that make billions of dollars prescribing “band aid” treatments. It keeps people coming back for more. They don’t want people knowing the truth because it affects their income and could ultimately take away their power. The more we learn the more we take back our power and reliance on the “system” becomes less and with that a realistic balance is created. I am always shocked about the lack of compassion in the rawfood scene, but also about the lack of real information.

Many meat eaters have Vit B12 deficiency (actually a higher percentage in comparison to vegans). Oral supplementation does not work if the intrinsic factor is missing or if the small intestine is damaged because of chronic inflammations. These chronic inflammations are caused by meat, fish, dairy – whatever protein of animal source you can name. Then you need the shots, but once the stocks in the liver are restored one shot in three months is enough for most people. Just do the blood test and find out by yourself.

Read “The China Study” by T. Colin Campbell to understand why a vegan diet is the healthiest way of living. And then put the icing on the cake by eating mainly raw vegan. Your body will thank you.

And the animals will do, too.

I see it as only a matter of time before there will be truly major changes in the way many things function on this planet. Each one of us has the power to contribute to this change, if we so choose. Remember this is the way they were trained, so now we have to create a new training and lift the blinds to let the light in.

Great info. I asked my Dr at mylast physical if he would order me a vitamin profile analysis. He said yes but he only ordered a profile of my uric acid and vitamin D. I am not a meat eater so why he ordered uric acid ..no idea. My vitamin D came back low. I ordered some D3 but it came to me in a small bottle based in olive oil. I had to put a drop on my tongue. Ididn’t like this form. What is the best form to take it in? I love this info from you Dr. M. Just wish that we could get people to see that they are killing themselves along with the help of their doctors.I refuse to pay someone exorbitant high prices to kill me. Thanks again

Don’t stomp your feet and act like a baby about a video. If it works for everyone else (and it seems to, works fine for me) assume it’s most likely your own internet connection not running fast enough to play streaming video well. Start it up and then pause it, it will buffer some and run better. Or did you not even SEE the big box with a play symbol in the center, at the top of this page? I’m not sure from the way you worded this.

    Hi Douglas Lee,
I learned with both Dr.Mercola and Kevin Trudeau that children under 5 should take 2,500 units vit D daily as minimun and for adults and elderly should be 5,000 units daily depending also on how defficient you are according to the tests but you can take safely 10,000 if you don’t live in a tropical place or don’t get too much sunshine. It will be toxic if you take more than 50,000.

Dr. Mercola, I have studied alternative medicine for 40 years and understood that excessive Vit. D can damage our kidneys. You didn’t address this question. You did say that, if your body is under attack, take or get 50,000 units per day for 3 days. But how much daily Vit. D is too much on a regular basis? Thanks. G.E.

your video was very interesting, particularly the point on Vitamin D released by the sun on the “exposed” skin… however, what about the people living … say in antartic areas ? Apart from the problems brought by “civilization” (!!) they do not seem suffering from lack of sun…

I found Dr.Mercola’s video extremely interesting, especially re D3. I have a 97 yr.old father who I am sure will benefit. I have also been searching for myself. I know I’m not well – the Dr. says you’re fine. I am English so sunshine is pretty minimal! Am I correct in thinking that B12 needs to be taken with something else to be effective?
Many thanks for your generosity of spirit, Marion

In regards to affording supplements, this is something that ought to be credited via healthcare. Many supplements are high but worth it! I take up to 16 different things but I also order it from a lab, instead of a office. Growing food is the best solution. I plan on growing root veggies and berries. Right now, i spend about 1500 a year for mywife and I. And it has taken cutting out car insurance, less clothes to just afford it. I would like to see medicare pay for them bc it can really cut down on illness. Even my one bottle of cranberry extract can prevent certain ulcers. Totally necessary.

“humanely raised meat” ? Come on! Look at the processing! Watch the film “Do you know where your food comes from” and get the facts right. Unless your uncle has a small farm where he raises AND SLAUGHTERS AND CUTS your meat, you get all the crap (literally) that everyone else gets. Promoting meat eating of any kind is NOT the way to vibrant health. Period.

Have you heard of Kangen water and the amazing things it is doing for everyone’s health? This technology from Japan is changing the lives of thousands because it takes your ordinary tap water, filters out the bad stuff, keeps, magnesium, potassium, calcium and sodium in your source water and then it ionizes, or restructures your water to make “living” water, which is alkaline, super hydrating at the cellular level and is loaded with 3-6 times more anti-oxidants than green tea.

Fantastic information. When I had my physical, my Dr. tested my Ferretin and D3 levels and wants to discuss iron supplementation. I’m a frequent blood donor and I know my ferretin is in the low levels; however, the Dr. didn’t send me the full results of the lab work so I know what to judge against. Needless to say, I’m looking to change doctors. In New England, it’s hard getting enough sunlight in the winter months.

Thank You! I am an outdoors person and I never belived all that hogwash about sunscreen. If we lived as the animals did, meaning all natural, we wouldn’t have sunscreens. But sometimes we get habits that are put upon us as kids. And sometimes we don’t know who to believe anymore. All I know is that I was fairly healthy and somewhat physically fit, pretty skin, I use to get double takes on looks. Then I moved to Wisconsin to visit me sister. I started putting on weight. In two years I looked like a rolly-polly. My skin is old looking and my health turned for the worse. I also eat differently here than I use to. Now all this may not have a thing to do with living here but there is a lot of large people in Wisconsin. The some of the younger folks are small but they are usually far more active in winter.
So what you say makes sense to me.

It has to be wrong; grossly wrong. To start to get into his good range, you need something like a totally terrible TG of 500 and equally poor HDL of 20. I would think <1 would be pretty good, but I can not find any definite numbers. Please someone, tell us what a good number is.

Hi. great piece on Vit D. I asked my doc to check my Vit D levels a few months ago because I know you can’t absorb calcium without a proper level. Turns out they’re low! Should be between 51 and 163 – mine is calculated at 40. Not good when I just turned 50 and there’s a history of osteoporosis in the family! This was my main concern but I did learn more from the video. I was aware of much of the content in the vidioclip but I’m sure a lot of people are not. I live in Ireland so not much sunshine! Vit D is so important!! be well all

Dr. Mercola….I was watching the video regarding the
6 tests that we are not getting, and Vitamin D, etc.
wow, this is a lot of information….and in my opinion,
it would be nice if you slow down a little, and speak just a bit slower..this is all so complicated…my god.
I am 61, a female, and am in excellent health….I eat out of my garden, get sunshine on my body (Vitamin D is a hormone, and I think it stays in the body for a while, we can store it…oil based, you know.)..I just
feel that folks are not getting out in the sun, and doing things outside. We have just gotten into an artificial lifestyle, and are suffering from it…there is a lot of hype out there, sensationalism, and a lot of Dr’s and naturopaths telling us what to do. thanks, kate m

If you don’t have enough Vitamin A to balance the Vitamin D, then vitamin D toxity presents itself. That’s why the ‘sacred foods’ of our ancestors contained both — and vitamin K2, which few know about.
